  • 4 medium Potatoes, thinly sliced Yukon Gold or Russet recommended
  • 1 can/10.5 ounces Cream of Mushroom Soup can be homemade
  • 0.5 cup Milk skim or almond milk for lighter version
  • 1.5 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese Gruyère or fontina as alternatives
  • 0.5 teaspoon Paprika optional
  • 1 tablespoon Butter, melted olive oil can be used

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until the beef is no longer pink.
  3. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the beef mixture; cook for 2-3 minutes until aromatic.
  4. Layer half of the thinly sliced potatoes evenly in the greased baking dish.
  5. Spoon half of the seasoned beef mixture over the potato layer.
  6. Add remaining sliced potatoes, then top with the rest of the beef mixture.
  7. In a bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth; pour over the casserole.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  9. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  10. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
