Cake Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease three 9-inch round cake pans and dust with flour.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt for 1-2 minutes.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
- Fold in boiling water gently until well combined.
- Evenly distribute batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Cakes are done when a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting and Assembly
- Beat unsalted butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
- Mix in milk and vanilla until the frosting is smooth.
- Spread fudge frosting between each cake layer and cover the outside of the cake.
- For ganache, heat cream until it boils, then pour over chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
- Pour ganache over the top of the frosted cake and let it drip down the sides.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
