Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and prepare your baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Grate frozen unsalted butter into a bowl with self-rising flour and combine gently with a fork.
- Chill the mixture in the freezer for 15 minutes to firm up the butter.
- Stir in the cold buttermilk until the mixture forms a sticky dough.
- Transfer the dough to a floured counter and shape it into a rectangle about ¾ to 1 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into four equal pieces, stack them, and press down gently to create layers.
- Cut out biscuit rounds from the stacked dough without twisting the cutter and place on baking sheet.
- Chill the cut biscuits on the baking sheet for another 15 minutes.
- Brush the tops with melted butter and bake for 13 to 15 minutes until golden.
- Remove from the oven and brush with more melted butter; allow to cool slightly before serving.
