For the Casserole
  • 1 lb Ground Beef lean ground beef recommended
  • 3 cups Potatoes sliced, preferably Russet
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup or homemade white sauce
  • 1/2 cup Milk or broth for non-dairy
For Seasoning
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper freshly ground
  • 1 tsp Paprika adjust to taste
For the Topping
  • 1 cup Cheese optional, cheddar or melt-friendly

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef for about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, season with salt, black pepper, and paprika, and cook until the onions are translucent.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish, followed by half of the meat mixture and half of the soup mixture.
  6. Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, meat, and soup.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove foil, add cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese melts.
  9. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.
