Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them into thin slices, aiming for about 6 cups.
  2. Mix sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl. Toss this mixture with the prepared apples.
  3. Melt butter in a skillet, add seasoned apples and cook for 3-5 minutes until slightly softened.
  4. Sprinkle flour and cornstarch over the apples, mixing gently. Allow the filling to cool.
  5. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and place a baking sheet on the middle rack.
  6. Roll out one pie crust and fit into a pie plate. Roll out the second crust for the top.
  7. Assemble the pie by pouring the filling into the crust, covering it with the top crust, and sealing the edges.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes at 425°F, then reduce temperature to 375°F and bake for an additional 30-40 minutes.
  9. Cool the pie for 2-3 hours before slicing and serving.
