Preparation Steps
- Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them into thin slices, aiming for about 6 cups.
- Mix sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl. Toss this mixture with the prepared apples.
- Melt butter in a skillet, add seasoned apples and cook for 3-5 minutes until slightly softened.
- Sprinkle flour and cornstarch over the apples, mixing gently. Allow the filling to cool.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and place a baking sheet on the middle rack.
- Roll out one pie crust and fit into a pie plate. Roll out the second crust for the top.
- Assemble the pie by pouring the filling into the crust, covering it with the top crust, and sealing the edges.
- Bake for 20 minutes at 425°F, then reduce temperature to 375°F and bake for an additional 30-40 minutes.
