Cooking Steps
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) if baking later. You can also finish on the stovetop.
- In a heavy-bottom skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add onion and sauté for about 2 minutes until translucent. Incorporate ground beef and seasonings; sauté for 5-8 minutes until browned.
- Remove beef and set aside. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil and diced potatoes. Cook potatoes for about 1 minute.
- Pour in ¼ cup of water, cover, and steam for 15-20 minutes until tender. Add more water if necessary to keep from sticking.
- Return ground beef to skillet, stir in mustard, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and more water if dry. Mix well.
- Stir half of the cheddar cheese into the mixture. Spread remaining cheese on top and bake for about 5 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with optional garnishes like herbs or hot sauce.
