Ingredients

For the Beef
  • 1 pound sirloin or flank steak or ground beef for quicker prep
For the Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter or vegan butter/olive oil for dairy-free
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce store-bought or homemade
For the Tacos
  • 8 pieces flour or corn tortillas gluten-free option: lettuce wraps
  • 1 medium red onion or pickled onions for extra zing
  • 1/4 cup cilantro optional, can substitute with green onions
  • 2 pieces lime wedges for serving

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by slicing sirloin or flank steak thinly against the grain. Toss the beef with smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated. Set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Add the seasoned beef and sear for about 4-5 minutes, browning on all sides.
  3. Remove the beef and lower the heat to medium. Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt, then sauté minced garlic for about 1 minute.
  4. Stir in your choice of BBQ sauce and honey into the garlic butter. Let the sauce heat through for about 2 minutes.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet and coat it with the BBQ sauce mixture. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until heated through.
  6. Warm the tortillas in a separate pan or microwave until pliable, about 30 seconds.
  7. Assemble the tacos by spooning a generous amount of beef mixture into each warmed tortilla, then top with red onions and cilantro.
  8. Serve the assembled tacos immediately with lime wedges on the side.
