  • 1 medium Onion (chopped) Shallots can be a milder alternative.
  • 1 pound Bacon (cooked and chopped) Use turkey bacon for a lighter option.
For the Sweet and Tangy Elements
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar Maple syrup can be used for an exciting twist.
  • 1/4 cup White Vinegar Substitute with apple cider vinegar for added depth.
  • 1 cup Ketchup Consider using homemade or sugar-free options if desired.
  • 2 tablespoons Mustard Dijon mustard provides a gourmet touch.

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • Frying pan
  • 20-quart Roaster
  • Non-stick Spray or Oil

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and brown the hamburger along with the chopped onion for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Drain the mixture and set aside.
  2. In a separate frying pan, cook the bacon over medium heat for approximately 10-12 minutes until crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess grease, then chop.
  3. Prepare a 20-quart roaster by greasing it thoroughly. Preheat your oven to 300°F.
  4. In the greased roaster, combine the drained hamburger and onion mixture with all your canned beans. Add chopped bacon, brown sugar, vinegar, ketchup, and mustard. Stir thoroughly until well combined.
  5. Cover the roaster and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 3 to 4 hours at 300°F, stirring every hour.
  6. Once done, lower the oven temperature to 200°F or 250°F to keep warm until serving.
