Step-by-Step Instructions for Italian Meatloaf
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a rimmed baking sheet with nonstick foil.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft, then add green bell pepper and cook for 2-3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, dried basil, and oregano before removing from heat.
- In a mixing bowl, combine sautéed vegetables, parsley, panko, 1 cup of marinara sauce, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella, and beaten eggs. Season with salt and black pepper before mixing well.
- Gently fold in ground beef and ground pork without overmixing.
- Shape the mixed meatloaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake in the oven for 55-60 minutes or until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Pour remaining marinara sauce over top and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- Let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
