Ingredients

  • 1 pound shaved steak
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 1 medium bell pepper thinly sliced (any color)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • Optional: hot sauce or mayonnaise for serving

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, sautéing until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet and add the shaved steak to the other side. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook the steak for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally until browned and cooked through.
  6. Combine the steak with the sautéed vegetables in the skillet and mix well.
  7. Preheat the broiler in your oven.
  8. Slice the hoagie rolls open but not all the way through. Place a slice of provolone cheese inside each roll.
  9. Spoon the steak and vegetable mixture evenly into each roll.
  10. Place the filled sandwiches on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Remove from the oven and add any desired toppings like hot sauce or mayonnaise. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños to the sautéed vegetables.
  • You can substitute provolone cheese with cheddar or mozzarella for a different flavor profile.
  • For a lighter option, use whole grain rolls or lettuce wraps instead of hoagie rolls.
