Ingredients

  • 3-4 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce your favorite brand
  • 1 cup beef broth

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt to create a dry rub.
  3. Pat the brisket dry with paper towels and rub the spice mixture all over the meat, ensuring it is evenly coated.
  4. Place the brisket in a roasting pan, fat side up. Pour the beef broth around the brisket, then cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil.
  5. Roast in the preheated oven for 3 to 4 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
  6. Remove the brisket from the oven and carefully take off the foil. Brush the top with barbecue sauce and return it to the oven, uncovered, for an additional 30 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
  7. Let the brisket rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing against the grain. Serve with extra barbecue sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add more cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce to the barbecue sauce.
  • You can also marinate the brisket overnight in the spice rub for deeper flavor.
  • Consider serving with coleslaw and cornbread for a classic barbecue meal.
