- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a 9x13 inch baking pan in the oven.
- Melt ½ cup of butter over medium heat until it turns rich caramel color, about 5-7 minutes. Cool slightly.
- In a bowl, toss together 2 cups of fresh blueberries with ¼ cup of granulated sugar and the zest of one lemon.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk 1 cup of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
- Gradually add 1 cup of milk, the browned butter, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the dry ingredients. Stir until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the melted buttered pan, then dollop the blueberry mixture on top. Sprinkle remaining sugar.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown on top. A toothpick should come out slightly moist.
