Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a 9x13 inch baking pan in the oven.
  2. Melt ½ cup of butter over medium heat until it turns rich caramel color, about 5-7 minutes. Cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, toss together 2 cups of fresh blueberries with ¼ cup of granulated sugar and the zest of one lemon.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk 1 cup of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  5. Gradually add 1 cup of milk, the browned butter, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the dry ingredients. Stir until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the melted buttered pan, then dollop the blueberry mixture on top. Sprinkle remaining sugar.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown on top. A toothpick should come out slightly moist.
  8. Let cool for 30 minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream.
