Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk with sugar and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and orange zest. Add the activated yeast mixture, beaten eggs, and softened butter. Mix until a soft, sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead & Rise: Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl and cover. Allow to rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Shape Dough: Punch down the dough and divide into three parts. Roll into strands, braid them together, and shape into a circular loaf on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Second Rise: Cover the braided dough and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffed up.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool & Glaze: Let cool on a wire rack for 15-20 minutes. Mix powdered sugar with milk and vanilla to make the glaze. Drizzle over bread and add colored sprinkles if desired.
